Men and Men's Issues

Men’s issues are a particular specialty of mine. While, for decades, I have been engaged in personal growth as a person and as an emotional being, I have also worked hard to develop as a man. In 1982, having worked my way through Joseph Campbell and Robert Bly, I formed a men’s emotional support group that ran for almost 20 years. 10 years ago, I did the Mankind Project’s New Warrior Training, and this year (2018,) I did it again.

In 2013, I had the great good fortune to pick up a copy of No More Mr. Nice Guy, which struck a powerful chord of recognition in me. I immediately contacted the author, Dr. Robert Glover and trained with him to grasp his way of thinking about the problems of men. I now count Dr. Glover as a personal friend. He and I have done, and will continue to do, workshops devoted to the ongoing struggles entailed in being a man in the modern world.

By the way, if you would like to find out more about Dr. Glover's work, go to his website at .

After training with Dr. Glover, I began running a monthly workshop for men. It is now in its fifth year, I’m proud to say. I have also taken on associate therapists who are running weekly men’s groups. At the same time, both I and my associates provide individual therapy for men, alone and in conjunction with group membership. I welcome your attendance.

For your information, here are the groups currently running.

Monthly workshop: This is a 2 – 2 ½ hour open workshop I run personally. It is half didactic, half interactive. There are generally 15-20 guys there, and it’s fun and loose. No reservations required, but RSVPs are encouraged. It costs $25 a session. To find out more about it, go to and join the group. Then you can click on the upcoming meetings and RSVP.

Weekly groups: There are two of these, both run by my associate, Dr. David Perlman (see my “Low Cost Psychotherapy” page.) The groups are 90 minutes long and limited to 7 members. They are Thursday evenings in West L.A. and Saturday mornings in Westwood. They cost $50 a session. To find out more, talk directly with David to find out more.
